Songwriter Kip Berman has crafted C86-indebted indie-pop for nearly 10 years now under the moniker the Pains of Being Pure at Heart. With the announcement of his fourth full-length, The Echo of Pleasure, coming soon, listeners are greeted by “Anymore” and “When I Dance With You.” The former harkens back to sophomore album, Belong, with its thick, Smashing Pumpkins-esque guitars, while the latter ventures into unexplored new wave territory with blipping synths and guest vocals from A Sunny Day in Glasgow’s Jen Goma. The band stops by the Earl as part of its North American tour playing songs from The Echo of Pleasure, out this September.
